INFORMATION Sean Alexander Fisher is an engineer wearing pataphysical goggles.
With a background in mechanical engineering, having studied at The Glasgow School of Art and the Design Academy Eindhoven. His practice merges engineering and pataphysics to explore how systems break down, mutate and reassemble. He is drawn to transformation in materials, ideas and machines, and to the often absurd ways human culture adapts to its environment. Working across multiple mediums including film, sculpture, installation and performance, he responds to fringe engineering cultures, ecological shifts, economics, communities and time.
Fisher also works as a photographer and writer, his work can be seen here.
At Europe’s largest handmade bicycle show, a Taiwanese correspondent, representing The Society for Normal Taiwanese Bicycles, explores the world of bespoke bike craftsmanship as a representative of Taiwan’s mass-production industry. Seeking dialogue between industrial efficiency and artisanal tradition, he encounters skepticism, language barriers, and cultural resistance. His questions—challenging the assumed superiority of European handmade bicycles—make builders uneasy, ultimately leading to the correspondent's breakdown and expulsion from the event. The film interrogates the romanticism of bespoke craftsmanship, questioning whether exclusivity equates to quality and examining the neocolonial dynamics that shape perceptions of value in cycling. Has Taiwan, through mass production, done more for cycling than these artisans? A meditation on design, industry, environmental concerns, and authenticity, the film explores who truly shapes the bicycles and the world we ride in.

His practice blends mechanical engineering and pataphysics. His fascination with metamorphosis and transformation is evident as he turns a critical eye towards humanity's use of the planet's finite resources. Through his sculptures, he seeks to reflect the dynamic nature of the world, emphasizing and responding to the absurd relationship society has with fringe engineering cultures. Furthermore, he explores the interrelations between ecology, economics, communities, and time.
